Abstract: It was shown that thermal release approach can consider as a powerful tool for direct elements speciation in solid matter (on example of mercury). The developed TR-ETA-AAS method allows determination of mercury(II) chloride, methylmercury chloride, mercury sulfide and sulphate at the level of 0.3, 0.05, 0.03 and 0.20 µg (as mercury) with a reproducibility of 20, 15, 10 and 25%, respectively. Moreover the LODs of the mercury species obtained in this work are comparable with those obtained using the more sophisticated and complicated techniques such as CE-ICP-MS and HPLC-ICP-MS.
