Abstract: Materials with strong spin-orbital interaction draws attention in different research fields. Compounds of osmium with octahedral surroundings shows variety of magnetic properties. The changes of these properties are related to the complex interaction of spin-orbital coupling in the valence band alongside with crystal field splitting, electron pairing energy, cation effect and superexchange interaction. In the work it is presented results of the study of magnetic properties and electronic structure in osmium octahedral complexes and solids with the d4 electron configuration by X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy and theoretical calculations
