Abstract: A graphene-like material was recovered through the reduction of initially nonconductive C2F graphite fluoride by irradiation with an electron beam with a kinetic energy of 500 eV. The surface conductivity increased by four orders of magnitude, and Raman scattering revealed a narrowing and redshift of the G mode peak. The samples were tested as a sensor material for detecting NO2 and NH3 molecules. After 25-min exposure to 1% NH3 and 0.5% NO2 at room temperature, the relative response of the sensor materials was 6 and 4%, respectively.
