Abstract: The study reports the synthesis of three new ZnII coordination compounds of different dimensionality with 4,8-disulfo-2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid (H4dsndc) anions and chelating and bridging bipyridine ligands: the molecular complex [{Zn(H2O)(2,2′-bpy)2}2-(dsndc)]•H2O (1), the one-dimensional coordination polymer [{Zn(2,2′-bpy)(dmf)}2-(dsndc)] (2), and the two-dimensional coordination polymer [Zn2(4,4′-bpy)2(H2O)4(dsndc)] (3) (2,2′-bpy is 2,2′-bipyridine, 4,4′-bpy is 4,4′-bipyridine, dmf is N,N-dimethylformamide). The structures of all compounds were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. A shift from a chelating to bridging coordination mode of the N-donor ligand leads to the natural change in the dimensionality of the coordination compounds. Compound 3 was obtained as a chemically pure phase and characterized by standard physicochemical methods, including elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and IR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of compound 3 were studied by thermogravimetric analysis.
