Abstract: Two polyiodometallates of group 15 elements with the general formula (H3O){(Py)2(CH2)3}6{[M2I11][MI5(I3)]2(I3)2}·3H2O (M = Sb (1), Bi (2)) were synthesized, featuring extended supramolecular networks based on iodine⋯iodine non-covalent interactions. The optical band gaps for 1 and 2 are 1.46 and 1.55 eV respectively.
