Abstract:
This research is devoted to the synthesis of lanthanide(III) coordination compounds with enaminone derivative (2-{[(2-methoxyphenyl)amino]methylene}-5,5-dimethylcyclohexane-1,3‑dione, L) and investigation of their photoluminescent properties. Two types of mononuclear compounds – [LnL3(NO3)3] (Ln3+= Eu, Sm, Tb, Dy) and [LnL2(H2O)(NO3)3] (Ln3+= Sm, Tb, Gd) – have been obtained. The composition and structure have been confirmed by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and powder X-ray diffraction. According to single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, the ligand exhibits a monodentate coordination mode. The presence of π-π stacking or intermolecular hydrogen bonds results in the packing as layer or chain. The photoluminescence of the ligand and lanthanide(III) complexes is studied in the polycrystalline state. Energy transfer from the ligand to the lanthanide ions occur in the case of europium(III) and samarium(III) compounds. The quantum yield of ligand equals to 49 %, as for complexes – less than 1 %, while luminescence lifetime is in nanosecond region for L and in millisecond – for europium(III) compound. The color purity is found ⁓ 60 % for ligand and europium(III) complex.
