Abstract: In this article, a unique 3D metal–organic framework [Co(BETA)(H2O)]⋅2H2O, abbreviated as Co-MOF was directly synthesized by hydrothermal method with 1,4-bis(2-ethylimidazol-1-yl) terephthalic acid (H2BETA) as an organic ligand and Co as the metal linker. Co-MOF was analyzed by PXRD, FTIR, UV–vis, TG and ζ potential, which exhibits a negative potential and possesses an optimal pore size, rendering it capable of effectively adsorbing cationic dyes. The adsorption of Janus Green B, Methylene Blue and Malachite Green by Co-MOF conforms to Pseudo-second-order (R2 > 0.99) and Freundlich model (R2 > 0.98). Furthermore, it exhibits exceptional stability and repeatability in aqueous environments, effectively facilitating the chemical and physical adsorption of the three cationic dyes.
